MadMapper won't recognize a PS4 controller is connected

I have a PS4 Dualshock controller connected to my Macbook Pro via Bluetooth, but when I try to add a PS3/4 control under the Control List, I get this error: "There are no PS3/4 devices connected".
I have tried it on multiple computers and have tried a restart, but it still doesn't recognize the controller.
The controller is able to work with Steam and a testing program called Controllers Lite and shows up in the System Information as a wireless controller.
Is there a procedure for connecting PS4 controllers?
