    Combining MM Players

    by caneron » Wed Nov 27, 2019 12:23 am

There's a nice little work around for combining surfaces in MadMapper, but here's what I'm trying to do and I'm looking for some ideas:

We have about 10 static "activations" in our office, and I'd really like to combine those into fewer computers just to make management easier. Each "activation" is 1x headless 1x display. Content is either completely static (1 video clip) or goes through a MadMapper cue session. If I want to combine a bunch of those is there a way to keep the different surfaces separate so I'm not auto-continuing the fully static surfaces vs the cue'd surfaces?

use cues not scenes, and make different cues for static and dynamic,
trigger both cues at the same time (if they're in the same column).

@franz totally. I only use cues lol.

Are you saying that I designate the top (cue) row for surface A, the next (cue) row down for surface B?

If the clips are different durations, the auto-followup won't line up. Unless you can have multiple row going independently from each other?

    mmmm, I see.
Indeed, you might have a problem there.
Let us think about it to find a workaround.

You can use a bunch of cue scheduler modules, specifying the target with "Start Cues in Range" and choose a different row for each module. At the bottom of the scheduler there's a "Go next now" button to trigger next cue manually.

mmm ... I don;'t think it will solve the problem.
For me, an ideal solution would be to set "cues post actions" , like in ableton live,
where you can decide which cue to start/play next next at the end (or after reaching the movie's end) of a currently playing cue.
that way, columns would be de-synchronized ...

A cue scheduler can completely replace the "auto-play" except that there can be multiple ones operating on different rows.
The only issue is you cannot use "switch when movie reaches loop end" in this situation

-> maybe we can add that to the cue scheduler ?

It is supported by Cue Scheduler, but it does switch when any movie attached to a surface reaches loop end. Not only movies referenced by at least one surface in the cue.
