    LED Output Preview

    by messy000000000 » Tue Sep 08, 2020 4:31 pm

    Hello,

I am using madmapper to control LED fixtures (no projection involved).

    I saw this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ielXPTqh79E
where the guy has a 3D preview of his output which would be fantastic for designing a set from home.

But I cant figure out how to do it! I am completely new madmapper and don't understand most of the terms and stuff (I don't really understand surfaces etc).

Can anyone explain how to do this step by step?

    Thanks.

    Hi,
That's not a 3D preview of the output. I'm doing the video composition with video surfaces on a "MadMapper projector" (that is not sent to a real projector), I activate the Syphon (macOS) /Spout (Windows) output for this projector, then I use this video stream as an input for all light fixtures.
So I'm making in MadMapper a video stream where I attached DMX fixtures.
    Am I clear enough ?
    Cheers

ah I see. I don't know how to do that but I think I understand the principle.

Is that the only way to get this kind of effect then? Or is there an easier way to get a picture of what the output will look like?

    Two options:
1- Like in this tutorial, we use a video representation of the stage to feed the DMX fixtures (using Syphon/Spout loopback in MadMapper is a way)
2- Use a 3D lighting visualization software like Capture (https://www.capture.se/) or WYSIWYG (https://cast-soft.com/wysiwyg-lighting-design/) that receives the DMX / ArtNet stream from MadMapper and where you patch all your lighting fixtures (LED bar). This is quite powerful but requires more skills / work
