Is it possible to play two or more movies at the same time??

e.g. play movie A at layer 1 and play movie B at layer 2. etc.

yes, it is possible on 10 layers at the same time.
Depends of the size of your clips, your output resolution, your machine, etc…

don't mixup modul8 and madmapper, please be clear if the question is regarding madmapper only or madmapper with modul8 and if the answer is regarding modul8 only or both.

    Overlap or synchronize ?

    Dissolve ? Like in a timeline ?

For synchonisation there is a Module (vs) synchronize

For Dissolving two Layer you need to activate the "Fade" function (play/opt./fade und the ad layer function)

If you want to superimpose 2 Layer and sync them this works with (vs) synchronize.

If the Task is to work with a Big Composition and map the different Videos in MM,
Then (vs) synchronize would help too , to get the video playing in sync.

i hope it helps you and i did understand the task .

I have the same question regarding projecting two or more images/videos at the same time using ONLY madmapper...

From what I've seen on the forum is (for images for example) to have all your images on a big JPG file, and then map
with the surface tools the different images...
I suppose it would be the same thing with videos, having to render them all together on a big comp..
(which is not the best workflow...)

So a better idea would be to learn modul8 right ? ;)

    Thanks !

I just found VPT software that enable multi video output at the same time.
Is it better with this software or the workflow of combining MadMapper with modul8(?)
    is a better way... ?

    Hi,
only you could tell which is the best app for your task.
I think you have to test this.
It´s the only way to achieve this.
Which is a better editing app: Avid or Final Cut Pro .
Some people stand for Avid , some for FCP.

They both do the same thing; Editing; but it´s the details in which they differ.

Last Week i was in a shop and asked the price of a camera.
Even this camera came in 2 different Version.
The vendor then said: It´s the details that count.

So if you know that there are two products that do the same thing you have to test them.
Maybe one of the App is more stable and this is important for you because you´re not
projecting for your family , but for a crowd.

You can download MM for free and test it. If you like it and it´s doing the thing you want to do.
    You buy it.

And maybe there is someone in your city that is already using this app.
You could get in contact with this person.

I think that testing is the fun part of this.

I hope i could help you.

    Thanks pele2010 for your response.
I did actually test them both now, but I was asking for the opinion
of an experience video mapper like one of you so that I can start
right away with the best workflow the masters came out with ;)

Thats the problem of working freelance alone, you don't have
the wisdom and expertise of better than you at your fingertips..

So thats why I was wondering if one of you test VPT and what
he or she liked better ? From what I see, the combination of
MM and modul8 seems the favorite one...

    Hi, utopiko,

when i heard that garagecube was working on the madmapper , i thought
that this would be a good tool to work with.
So after the launching of the software i decided to test it and after that
    i bought it.

Since then i´m testing the software.

And since MD8 and MM are from the same company they work very well.

Also you have a very good support. That answers to your questions.

And then you have this forum.

So i don´t know how the VPT tool works but there is something i know.
    Nothing is for free.

I would test first the VPT tool and compare it with the other tools.

As i mentioned it´s details. And they matter the deeper you get into a Job.
So for testing you can download all the software and practice.

I´ve seen Clips on youtube that where done with the demo version of MD8.

For me the VPT tool looks like a different concept.
MadMapper can work together with MD8 but you can use it stand alone.
If so the functionality is reduced to the mapping, which can be quite nice
because it reduces the possibilities, so you have to focus yourself on the
    crucial things.

On the Madmapper Website there are lots of tutorials.
    Have you read them ?
    They are excellent.

And where are you located? Maybe there is a workshop where you can
    test the apps.

    Hope i could help you

    Thanks !
    That helps.
Any advice help since I'm new to this.

I'm working on a project where motion graphic will be projected on a 3d (real) object (so this is the 3d mapping part that MadMapper does really well). People will also be able to interact with this installation. By either sending a SMS or a tweet (not sure yet), they will trigger different animations (either specific one or a random one). So now I'm looking for the best way (workflow, software, language) to achieve that.
I can'T seem to find a way to write some kind of function in modul8 ?

Do you have any idea on a way to do this ?

Thanks again for your time ! :)

    Hi ,

there are Modules in MD8, but you can only see them if you buy a license.

These Modules can be scripted with python.

    Can you program python ?

There is a online tutorial and manual.

But to achieve this it´s better if you either contact garagecube for help

or you ask the coder if he has a suggestion for the workflow.

I´ve seen a Mapping where people with a Mobil phone have triggered Graphics on a castle

    this is the link

    http://projektil.ch/157-0-mlove-stars.html

but to be realistic: they are doing this for years and some of them have a phd in computer science.

They could track the motion of the phones too, but this is not an easy thing to do.

How much time do you have to build this?
What about the budget? Is there as Sponsor involved? Like a telco company ?

    by the way ;

i think these people where the first to do such things without projection but with sms and light .

    i hope this helps you.

    No I cannot ;)

I'll do that for sure !

Yeah, thanks for the link, its nice.

It's a school project during a Graduate Certificate. My exhibition is on the 19th of April this year.
There is no budget, I'm doing all the work (animation, construction, programmation...)
For the sms part, I've contacted a Montreal artist (cause I live in Montreal) that did something similar and
she directed me to : https://www.tropo.com/
It seems fairly simple to use.
So I have to find a way to link this service to my 3D mapping. Maybe I can do it with Processing or VVVV..

If there is a coding department on your university, i would get into contact with students that have
    experience with
    1. Quartz Composer
    2. Max MSP
    3. Processing is also a good choise.
    4. Maybe there is a student that knows python too.

    very good.
but it looks like a sms service with hosting .

Do you want to display the text of the sms , or turn it into a graphic?

    excellent.

VVVV is greate. (if you know how)
But teaching it yourself and working on the certificate is quite a lot for such a short time-slot.
The most important tip that i can give you is:
please talk to your professor about the problems you are facing.
I´m sure that he will have more information to help you.
And if not, contact someone from the coding dep.

And check the forum for "sms" , there´s plenty threads.

I hope this helps you with your certificate.
