Why do duplicate Layer jump with offset ?

    by pele2010 » Sat Feb 02, 2013 12:49 am

    Hi,

i´m testing some mapping . This includes Masks. I don´t want to generate the complete content new,
so it fits into its own mask.

So i generate a Layer, Mask and Layer-mask Map in MM.

Something came to my attention. But maybe this is by purpose.

If you duplicate a layer; it moves to a certain amount in X and Y.

Why that. It´s a duplicate. For me it makes no sense.

The only possibility is that it could show me ; "ah there is a new layer , come on move me !"

But if your a masking and you have to reposition every-time the duplicate it´s a pain. More pain if there´s 140 decibel
    and you need to concentrate.

I would appreciate to know if there is a feature behind this behavior, or give me a note if it´s just something that wasn´t fixed
and will be fixed in future.

I hope this question is not to stupid !

I see what you mean. But your duplicating your input surface which DOES NOT move once it's been duplicated.
You would very rarely put multiple exact output surfaces on each other. You would just change the input image for that particular surface.

Also, just make sure you have on "Snap to Objects" and you can very quickly snap points to each other to duplicate the original output surface.

    Thanxs for the reply,

i know , but what if you want to generate a sequence that runs from different source point into altered outputs.
so that you generate different variations of the same animation.

i know that you can do that in M8 , but it´s much more efficient in MM. And you get a lot of new animations from the same source.

I see the point that if you map the output and you create a new surface than it´s good to have an offset to spot this surface easier.
    But what if not.

I don´t know; i just ran in to that problem and was wondering if other people use it as sequencer.
It would be nice to have the choice how the output surface generate.

    thanxs,

    in the latest MadMapper 1.4.2,
cmd-D duplicates with an offset (so that you actually see that you duplicated a surface)
cmd-C cmd-V copy pastes a surface, WITHOUT offset

    now you have the choice
