midi overwrites presets

Maybe I am using some wrong terms as I can't find anything about this when i search the forum.
I just made a bunch of cool different presets (saved in the 123), then when I used my midi controls for madmapper, they changed my preset to whatever quads I had shapped when I made that midi.
Maybe I just need a basic midi preset tutorial... I don't get it.
Help please, how to understand midis and presets please.
