    MIDI Triggering

    by nqeldridge » Tue Dec 08, 2015 2:46 am

I am trying to trigger the Play Forward button on a video by a MIDI note. Yet, for some reason, I often have to send the note twice before the video plays. Does anyone have an idea as to why this happens and what I can do to make the triggering more consistent?

I can confirm that it happens in the latest version 2.2.2, and it happens on different machines.

I am running El Capitan, not sure if that makes a difference.

Do you send a MIDI note off between two MIDI note on ?
If you send a MIDI note ON (with velocity != 0) MadMapper remains the current value of this note, if you send it again, it will not considered you pressed the key again. You need to send a note off inbetween.

    I've tried several different solutions.

My goal is to use Ableton to send the MIDI notes to MadMapper. Ableton is sending a note on and then a note off and yet it does not trigger the video. Then I stop the track and start it over and the video triggers.

But the problem is not necessarily limited to Ableton. If I plug in my MIDI keyboard, I have to press the mapped key twice before the video will trigger.

It is the strangest thing. I may have to give in and put in a support ticket with the MadMapper folks.

    Hi,
If you map your MIDI notes to /medias/MyMovie.mov/select your media will be applied to selected surfaces (like in this video): https://www.dropbox.com/s/krb7x43e2dxrk ... t.mov?dl=0
You can select surfaces using the control /surfaces/MySurface/select or surfaces/MySurfaceGroup/select
You can also use the control that is on each surface to change the media of a specific surface or surface group: /surfaces/SurfaceName/mediaNumber. This can be driven by a MIDI CC.
Let me know if you have any problem

That solution seems to work. I only need to use one video per song, so I can send a MIDI note to apply the video to the surface right as the song begins.

Thanks for the help on this!
