Mad mapper can't see my projector

Just downloaded the demo.
Can't get Madmapper to see my projector.
It's connected to my iMac and when Madmapper isn't running it works fine.
I've turned off mirroring in system prefs but the only options in the projector output dropdown menu are "none" and "iMac" the projector isn't showing up at all.
I can't find any documentation on the Madmapper site about the hardware side of things at all and so don't know what hardware is supported which is obviously an issue before I buy mad mapper.
