I'd personally go with Datapath, reliable and pro. matrox is a pain, minimads wont do for edge blending

I would also use 3 DataPath Fx4 for a maximum of 12 outputs.
We've already made a setup with 16 outputs using 4 Fx4 units and a PC and it worked great, with no synchronisation issue since all the outputs were driven by the same graphical card.
Then, if you don't necessarily need perfect video-signal synchronisation, NDI and MiniMad are also viable options.

I would second that solution. Was very happy with Datapath when I used it.
