    MIDI over Network (OSX)

    by rsarosi » Thu Feb 12, 2009 11:28 am

I tried to connect Ableton Live to Modul8 via OSX's built in MIDI Network protocol (Audio MIDI Setup / MIDI Devices / Network). The MIDI signals arravies to the Modul8 machice. I saw it on a MIDI monitor application.

I configured Modul8's MIDI map like this (using the Position option): 1st MIDI channel controls 1st layer parameters, 2nd channel = 2nd layer, etc...

I started Modul8 after the MIDI network ready. So Modul8 found the MIDI Network device.

But, the MIDI events doesn't work properly. The MIDI clock works (I see it in the BPM modul). But the note on/off and the control values only controls one layer at a time (and I think it is random wich layer picks up the events). And as I told earlier the MIDI events arriving right on the machine: I tested it with a MIDI monitor app.

I tried the same setup, same Live project on the Modul8 machine and wired it to Modul8 throught the IAC Device and everything was OK.

Could someone help in this question? What's the problem?

    audio from Live Musicians

    by jocool » Mon Mar 23, 2009 12:33 am

we (VJs from SAT in Montreal) tried to find ways to trigger effects based on audio from Live Musicians - we tested Sound FX Mod + tried the SoundFlower app. + M8 sound input with success but it's limited...

What we need is to be able to get the MIDI clock from the Musician or other OSC or MIDI message and to distribute or map them on effects and controls.

Does anybody find original ways to control M8 based on Audio?

We have a developper buidling a PD Patch file to listen to Ableton LIVE messages and to send them to Modul8 but it's not very user friendly...

If anyone find a better way... please send the info!

A PD patch should not be necessary to get messages from Abelton Live. If you need to reroute anything just use Midi Pipe (Freeware).

I do a lot of graphic interpretations of the effects in Live but then I take the MIDI messages straigt from the MIDI controller instead.
