    NEED HELP WITH LOGICAL RECORD!

    by ruben117 » Wed Oct 14, 2009 9:49 am

    hey folks.

i think i'm making a fundamental mistake which isn't too hard to fix but i just don't get it done:

i'm trying to use the "logical record" function on a setup that's supposed to run on 4 external HDTVs. I've tried different codecs (prores, foto-jpeg, animation) always with the resolution 5120x720 (4x 1280x720 for the 4 TVs). There's not really a problem with the different layers (as often mentioned by other poor guys) but the material is not at all scaled or has anything to do with the 4 output windows... it's just the source-resolution in the middle of the recorded videofile.

what do i have to do to get modul8 to just record the stuff that's shown on the output-screens and stitch it together as one 5120x720 file?

    should be possible, shouldn't it?

    greetz and thx in advance!

    EDIT:

Okay now i also got problems with a completely black output or missing layers... gdmnit.

Render Logical Record has never worked without problems for me. If you can use Record and capture to Disk instead. Or capture your computer screen with apps like SnapzPro and BlackOp or vade's quartz plugin.

ok thx... i'll try those external programs if there's no other solution. nevertheless, isn't there anybody out there with some experiences in recording data in such a high resolution? judging from other topics it seems that there are people who are pretty happy with the logical record... does it only work with standart resolutions and smaller videofiles?

    *PUSH*! ;)

Well. the logic behind is that your mac has to run your HD mix AND record it real time. I think it is too much to ask at any computer. If you get your out to beamer without frames dropping and slowdowns then I would record this with outside/external device. Like camcorder through scan converter.

Yeah, but it should work better than some direct rendering function... An external device would not really work because the different setups are not running all too well and we need the final records as videofiles in the correct format for the 4 screens (they'sre supposed to be run at a club without a VJ/modul8-operator around).
