Input overall computer sound to M8 (sound in)

    by FlyingLobster » Wed May 12, 2010 8:32 am

    Hey,

I know this is probably not a new topic, but I can't find an answer while searching previous posts.

My question is how I could redirect the overall sound out of my macbook to the sound in of M8.
I want to be able to play an MP3 in itunes or listen to any music from a website, and have M8 react to whatever I can hear coming out of the computer speakers...

I did use the little LineIn soft in the past, but that was to have the line in signal going to M8...

    Any idea ?

    Thanks

There is soundflower to do that It's a bit buggy so I don't think it's a good idea to use it in production but if it's only to do some tests it should be ok.

Would it be foreseen in the next M8 relaeases to allow selection of which 'sound in' to use (line in, mic, system sound) ?

How do VJs usually do to test visuals reacting to sound ? Play music from another source than the computer and put it in the line in ?

Usually music comes from another source for VJs - like DJ or band. I use mic in my MBP or if I want a one instrument I get line from it.
This has been discussed before and general opinion is the M8 should not be an AV mixer. There are other apps that are catered to that niche.

@FlyingLobster Modul8 uses the "default" sound in defined in the system preferences. So just open System Preferences, change the sound in to (mic, line in, ...) and restart Modul8.

Using SoundFlower/JackPilot/... is to route audio from one application to another.
