So I have been doing some research into the Matrox units and they (Matrox) have now taken the new (mid 2009) Macbook Pros off of their compatibility list. It seems that there is an issue with the output using the Apple branded Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. It seems to limit the resolution output.
I looked into the other 2 companies making adapters for the Mini DisplayPort and Monoprice was one of them. I sent them some questions and received some answers (see below).
The good news is that they say their Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter does not have this issue. The bad news is that they have no plans to make a Mini DisplayPort to S-Video adapter. As they are one of the major manufactures for after-market cables this does not bode well for those of us looking for component/composite output without adapters.
Just FYI
My Questions:
I have 2 questions both dealing with the latest (mid 2009) Apple Macbook Pro Mini DisplayPorts
1) There are reports that when using the Matrox Triplehead2go that the Apple minidisplayport to VGA adapter does not allow full resolution. Matrox states that this has to do with the way Apple made their converter.
Does yours have the same issues?
2) Do you have plans for a Mini displayport to S-video adapter?
Thank you for your time
Their Answers:
Hello Mr. Allen
In regards to your question, what were they considering to be full resolution because our mini dp to vga adpater has had no trouble displaying 1080p and vga is known to go beyond that as well. It can also vary per the source itself and the display is able to accept. Unfortunately not at this time we are going to be carrying a mini display port to s video, I do apologize for any inconvenience.
Should you have any further questions, please feel free to email us.
We appreciate your business.
Sincerely,
