Video out via firewire?

Greetings,
So I recently purchased a Firewire DV cam and was playing around with the idea of using the cam as a means of recording M8 compositions. I know logical record can do that, but I've had mixed results with it (dropped frames when Logical Record is active, etc.) and was looking for an alternative. Mind you, this is just a fun experiment, not something I NEED for production.
The only solution I found on the interweb was the QuickTime Video Output Component. I downloaded SoftVideoOutputComponent and the Firewire SDK, but I'm not sure how to steer the M8 output to the firewire cam. Anyone have any experience with this or other solutions to this problem? Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Justin
