Connecting Module 8 to trigers from live drums

    by Alma » Sat Aug 12, 2006 2:44 am

I'm directing a music video where the drumer will hopefully triger videos with his drum. This is one of the bigest drumers out there!!
I have no clue on how to do this and need amjor help.
I bought the module8 a year ago but only have the first version and I don't know how to use midi connections at all..
Please let me know where I can get suport for this, since I believe it will take more suport than a message board.
    Thank you so much
    A

I think boris and yves can talk about triggering video with drums (or tupperware :D)
you must use midi sensors for drums (you should be able to find that in a music shop) and also buy a midi interface to plug the whole thing to your computer via usb.
then, once it works, launch modul8, choose set midi map from the mapping menu, click on a greed field and activate the sensors you want to let modul8 know wich sensors will be allocate to wich effects or clip.
Read the user manual for more informations about midi mapping ;)

I'm just applying for a grant which includes a full set-up of Eowave controllers and midi sensors from here - http://www.eowave.com/page_produit?prod=29
they get a good press. They do both pressure and shock sensitive sensors.

I do a lot of work with live bands and find drum audio is not always the best for triggering clips 'on beat', the bass normally keeps it tighter.
For live audio triggering I get the desk to send me the bass signal.
Bass is much harder to set up using a midi trigger though, I work with a mate who uses a bass midi controller and we have had some success using that.
You may get interesting effects though using various different triggers over a full drum kit; interesting idea to plan out. Interesting for the drummer too.

I sometimes use a seperate little audio mixer if I need to with eq which allows me to choose the frequency I want to use as a clip trigger.
