First I want to say Modul8 is amazing! I love it!

I'm interested in anyone's experience using Modul8 for HD output - I'd like to go 1080i if it can handle it..

Any recommendations on minimum machine and graphics specs? What kind of performance (compared for example to 640x480 i/o) might I expect?

tried it on a G5 2x1.5...

Runs nice on one clip, no effects.
Runs 2 clips ok, with crossfading.
Adding a third clip is alright...
Adding effects gets the framerate uneven.

It all come down to how much ram you have (we had 4gigs), and how fast your drives are (SATA RAID 0).

I would recommend a macpro, on SATA RAID 0 for the OS and another for the clips, for some serious vj mix.

In the end, it all comes down to how long your clips are, and which codec you use. Using a codec or another would depend on your throughput strategy: RAM vs Disk.

By the way, I would like to know how Mod8 performs in 1080i on a macbook pro...

All experiences in 1080i appreciated.

I'm using 720p on my G5 2,3. Work fine with PhotoJpeg codec up too 4 clips in the same time. Thinking to buy the new MACpro but wait the new release that is comming soon.
I guess with new grafic card speed up = Frame rate ++

How long are your clips ?
are they preloaded to RAM ? direct to disc ?

What is, to you, the ratio between RAM vs disk usage ?
How does the graphic card performance impact CPU usage ?

BTW - how are you outputing HD from these machines?

I found a gefen cable that breaks out DVI-i to DVI & component - but have not found anyone that knows what it actually can do.... not at Gefen or Apple.

A Decklink card for component output looks like it could work?
