Rotary controller USB or MIDI? Giffin powermate or shuttle?

Hello I currently use a bcr2000 with modul8 but I am looking to get another controller.
I want to be able to use the controller for whatever knob or slider is currently selected. I was looking at the griffin powermate which seems like it would be perfect if you could tell it to emulate the left and right arrow keys, but I also read that somepeople couldn't get this product to work inside M8, can anyone testify to that?. Anyone use ShuttlePro or Shuttle Express? Thanks,
