    Save and Export Midi setting

    by brain » Fri Feb 16, 2007 9:29 pm

    Dear folks,

whats the best way to save and export a midi mapping so that it can be loaded by other people? I am currently developing a nice mapping for the new Faderfox LD2 (16 rotary encoders, check here: http://www.faderfox.de) and want to share it with others.

From our current experience the midi mapping of a modul8 file is stored in the preferences of the application. So you would need to give them the file AND your application preferences. It would be nice if the mapping was stored in the modul8 project file itself and of course even better if it could be saved in a separate file as you have suggested.

    Maybe modul8 v.3?

    thanks for joining the discussion!

in my scenario i have saved the mapping as the default configuration. when i change the pereferences to use a document configuration, i get an EMPTY midi map. so i can not export the default config this way...

question @developers: it is safe to exchange preference files with other users ???

ps. you may check out a PDF documentation of the LD2 setup here: http://www.eyetrap.net/hardware/PDF/LD2_Setup-1.pdf

as you see, quite some time is needed to set up the controls like that, so it would be cool if there was an easy import/export possibility... maybe even to load + choose DIFFERENT midi maps?

In response to Ylandsman... Yes.. this is true. But it still saves it in the preferences of the application. Not in the project file as most of us would assume. This has been verified as we:

    a) Moved a project file and all of it's related media to another computer only to find that the mappings were not there when we opened the file on that other computer.

    b) If one opens the actual application preferences file it can be seen that all of the midi preferences are there and not in the project file.

Safe? Well. All that can be said is that we moved the application preferences to the other computer and when we opened are project file the midi mappings were there.

I think it would be great if the midi settings were stored in a separate file. This would make both management, and interchange much easier. Doesn't seem that would be too hard to implement. I have a bcr2000 which has many available buttons, and knobs, so takes a very long time to set up.
