    Question about layer on/off

    by ylandsman » Mon Feb 26, 2007 11:28 am

When a layer is turned off what happens re the timeline. Does the movie pause while it is off, keep running, or restart when it is turned on?

    Hello Ylandsman,

It keeps on going. You can see this by selecting the 'layer' tab in the preview window.

If you need to have the movie stop you can create a custom module that will stop the movie when the layer is off.

    Hope this answers your question.

The movie do a pause when the layer is turned off.
If your layer is selected and your preview is on "mix" mode the movie do not a pause.

To restart a movie when a layer is turned on/off you can use the module "movie restart"

    Darn it. He's right.

To second that.. assume it is possible to write a module that prevents it from restarting after the layer is turned on? Kind of a nice option although there is probably a work around.

In any case if anyone wants a little clip to test out frame progression theories about m8 there is a simple movie that was made some time ago that can be downloaded

Thanks for your responses. So I need a way to keep multiple layers synched up even though at a given point in time, one or more of them may be turned off. Any suggestions?

    Ok.

This can be done. However to be clear the result outlined here will make ALL of the clips reset to their first frames. For something that re-synchronizes the turned off clip to the layers that are already one you may have to seek out a custom module solution unless there is one that already does this that I cannot see.

    My solution:
From the online user module library download (vs) synchro (layer master) and LB-CC Remap.

The (vs) will allow you to synch all the layer specified.

If you say have three layers use the (vs) synch module to select layers 1 through three. Then turn off all three layers.

Using the LB-Macro choose one of the 8 macros.
    Click 'LEARN.'
Turn on all of the layers.
    Hit the 'synchro' button.
Click 'LEARN' again to turn it off.

Now every time you click on the 'PLAY' button it will turn on all of the layers and synchronize them all to the first frame of the movie in the layer.

You can use the LB-Macro to create multiple actions so that say only 1 of the layers turns on and synchs etc.

If you or someone figures out how to keep frame synch on a layer that is turned off would like to know about that.
