Where does the media bank thumbnail come from?

I'm curious as to how Modul8 gets it's thumbnails from a video clip for the media bank. I wish it would use the same image as what is show in the mac folder, which I assume is the 1st frame of the movie.
I often run into the situation where I bring in some clips and later when I am looking for them I cannot find them because I was looking for the same image as the one I saw in OS folder.

I use some fairly abstract stuff and some of it looks similar to other clips, so it would be really nice if there was a way to choose your own thumbnail or at least default to the 1st frame of the clip.
This could backfire if the beginning of your clip was black or white however.

Anyhow - just a comment/suggestion.

We use the frame from the middle of the movie.
Why ? because a lot of people have movies with a black fade in fade out movies.
Confuse ? The name of each media is also on the thumbnail !
Do you use the last version ?

Ahh.
Ok.The middle frame makes sense.

And I do have the latest version and I do like the name on the thumbnail, it's just that I make some pretty abstract stuff, and the names I have for them, while somehwat descriptive, don't always bring an image to mind when I read em.

Anyhow... I was more curious than anything about where the thumb is coming from.

I have discovered that quicktime starts the thumb preview at whatever point in the time line the play head was at when saved. So if i was really ambitious, I could just save all my QT's with the play head right in the middle of the clip.

Of course we agree that being able to choose the position in the movie for the thumbnail would very useful and will definitively implemented in a future version of Modul8.
