No clips will loop seemless anymore!

    by spongemonkey » Sun Mar 11, 2007 7:13 am

    Uggg.
So I am not sure what the culprit is here, but I just downloaded some of the Apple updates, one of which was a Quick Time update, and another was a Java update. Since doing that, NO clips will loop without a stutter!
Like I am talking a good 1+ second pause!
And yes I have rebooted, shut down, jumped around, jiggled the handle, etc.
    Nothing is working.

I am running the latest version of Modul8 and I tried using a slightly older version and the same thing is happening.

Of course I have a performance tonight, which really is the best time for these kinds of things to happen... :p

Is anyone else having this problem?!

    - I should add that I am using a Macbook Pro.

In response to my own post here...

I have tried a number of things and the only thing I have found that lets the a clip loop seamless and with a glitch is if I open it's info and set it to "Ram preload uncompressed" then it plays back just fine, smooth and seamless.

    So there is that.

Also, it seem that my clips all play/loop fine in Quick Time itself.

Hi, Ram preload uncompressed is not a solution for all (Need a lot of memory)
It seems to be a problem with the last version of quicktime, we will check that.

In the meantime try to downgrade to quicktime version 7.1.3

    I find this how to ... :

Well I would love to report that that fix worked, but in my case it made things worse. No Modul8 won't open at all.
When I attempt to open it I just get a dialog box that says "The application Modul8 quit unexpectedly." and gives me the option to Close, Report or ReOpen.

It did succeed in rolling my Quicktime back to 7.1.3, so I know that bit worked.

It seems that there is a problem in CoreVideo in this QT release. I just sent a bug report to Apple. I'll try to find a workaround in the meantime.

Yeah, I would recommend not doing the roll back as it has really screwed my computer up!

Aside from not being able to run Modul8, I cannot run a number of other programs, including things like the System Utilities!
Heck, all the info up on the top right (clock, network strength, search) are all gone and I have no idea how to get any of this stuff working again.

I have been a PC user for about 26 years, and have only had a Mac for 1 year, so I am at loss for how to repair this.
    Any advice?

    Downgrade quicktime

    by Chongo » Tue Mar 13, 2007 11:27 am

    Hi Vj's,
it seems that there is a lot of troubles with Modul8 and last update of Quicktime = 7.1.5.
I had of course those troubles, and downgrading helps a lot. If you use only the downgrade from 715 to 713 you screw your system quite for sure. I used a trick, that consist of the application of the combo update once again after the restart... And that works again ;-) Give it a try, at this point you have nothing to loose. Hope it will help you guys.
    Keep up the good mix

    - If you don't have Quicktime 7.1.5 installed yet, do not install it.
    - If you already did the installation, wait for the V2.5.3 which includes a temporary workaround for this QT version. It should be online tomorrow (14 march 07).
    - If you cannot wait, try to downgrade, but it seems that it is a bit risky.

Hopefully Apple will fix the 7.1.5 problems in the near future (after all even World of Warcraft does not work on some configuration since this release, so they will have more pressure than usually  ).

In case anyone else tried the QT rollback and hosed their system, there is a fix. At least it worked for me...

First I went here to learn how to repaid permissions:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/repairprocess.html
Go to step 3. Repair Disk Permissions.

After that easy step, I just downloaded "Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (Intel)" at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ and reinstalled that OS update.

Everything seems back to normal now and as I speak I am downloading the latest Modul8 update!

    Thanks guys (despite the hic-up!)

And just as an addendum, I'd like to say that the update 2.5.3 works perfectly!
Thanks much for your quick response in this issue, even if it is just a temporary work around!
