Problems with Quicktime 7.2 + new imac?

currently running a complicated visual show on new imac which already had QT 7.2 installed. (stats below)
2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme
2GB memory
500GB hard drive1
8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory
Modul 8 keeps freezing up, no way of force quitting, or even shutting the mac down, i have to turn computer off at power. This happened several times during a show, it's completely nerveracking. The other problem is major flicker in the preview window. Both problems I have never seen before on my macbookpro laptop.
I am trying to downgrade Quicktime version to see if it helps, but if anyone has a suggestion, or if anyone knows an easy way to downgrade QT, pls let me know.
