layer stuck

This is very strange, as are many of my computer issues!
leopard, all QT & system upgrades, m8 254, 2.16, 3 gb ram.
I'm using stills, exclusively in this composition. I'm also using the GN Rotation Module.
I've got motion in all the layers. One layer is sticking, no matter what media I put into the layer. I delete the layer, even put a new one in another place and select a new media and it works fine. when I select another layer, the "new media" just inserted freezes in place. i've quit & rebooted and the problem persists.
