Multiprojection problems on a new mac pro 2008

    by RickRobiN » Thu Jan 31, 2008 8:54 pm

    Hey
Testing a mac pro 2.8 8core. with 4x Ati Radeon HD 2600. with the dvi>composite adaptor.
The problem is that in the preview panel nothing happens with all the photo-jpg or dvcpro HD quicktimes. only h264 works but .stuttering a lot.
Still the video works on all the outputs in al the codecs without any problems
(only in the fullscreen mode. if not a white image is shown, same as in the preview panel)
It happens with 2.5.4 and the Beta.2.5.5.
Is this a quicktime 7.3 problem or is it the new octo mac pro hardware?

    cheers RR

it looks like it's quicktime ! when you play a photoJpeg file, if i understand what you say, it should be white i guess. Then, try to activate a pix FX as contrast or light or whatever pix FX, then your clip should appear, but slowed down because of the effect. If this is what happens for you, then, it's because of QT ! Up to now, for multiprojection, only quicktime 7.1.3 works fine with M8 V2.5.4 (and of course with tiger)

I don't know what's happenig to the computer world these days, many software are downgrading their options in their updates.... leopard is full of bugs that didn't exist in tiger, quicktime doesn't play flash files anymore... and because of that, many sowftware that are based on quicktime have problems right now, even the biggest like after effects cs3 that cannot render more thant 10 minutes because of the latest version of quicktime

So if I install tiger on a seperate harddisk, I will be lucky with M8 V2.5.5 Beta
Mac OS 10.4.9 QT 7.1/7.2/7.3? with the ATi HD 2600 in theory?

By the way, modul8 only use one of the 8 cores. makes it sense to use h264 because there is enough processor overhead power for h264 to decode so I can keep the datarate low and play more clips at higher resolution?

one last question, nothing to do with this subject, why can't I move my clips not anymore in the x and y axis,?

and yes, apple is not prosumer anymore :( All the fancy quicktime updates for itunes etc. are disturbing, also not sure about leopard advantages so far compared with tiger.

    btw Thanks for the answers!

    cheers RR

The only thing i know is that only QT 7.1.3 (not 7.2 or 7.3) worked with M8 v2.5.4 for multiprojection on my macpro 2.66gh. With the others version of QT, i had pbs of white medias as you described. And i'm very disapointed to hear that it's still the same pb with a new mac pro and the last graphic cards and leopard. I was hoping that the pb would be solved but no, not yet.

    Hey Dode.
The only solution to get rid of the white frame is to re-enncode everything to h264.
Installing tiger& 7.1.3 on the new mac pro disables quartz btw. (It's also not possible normally on a new mac pro to install tiger)
I am not sure to download the new update of quicktime released today.
But maybe maybe this is the solution....... You never know
I will post the answers soon
    cheers

:D photojpg is working again in quicktime 7.4.1
    Both modul8 2.5.4 and 2.5.5
Still some performance drops in the preview panel, but not in the output.

Just keep it with h264. Forget jpg and you will be fine.
(and test test test test :)
    And use 2.5.5.

(Got the feeling that h264 makes the clips really small and it easier for modul8 to handle, it ' s all about datarate now. So it's good to keep it as low as possible or am I wrong?)
