    Mac Pro 8 core WARNING!

    by ilan » Fri Feb 01, 2008 4:51 pm

    Hello everyone,

We are sad to report that our initial tests with modul8 on the recent 8 core systems shipped by Apple have been problematic. Frame drops and lackluster performances.

We are of course looking into what the problem is and will make an announcement once the issues have been resolved.

Thank you for your support of modul8!

    Kind regards,
    The Modul8 Team

now i know what made me so sad...
bought one of the first 8core macpros, 4months ago and always had performance probs,
which i really didnt expected with that system.
...and even downgrading quicktime to 7.13 didnt help to solve this...

what is going on with apple ???
like sigma said in an other post every update seems to come along with massive loss
of options, performance and stability, is this the price we have to pay for the digital hub
    philosophy ?

please try to find out this problems, i am hopefull again now, knowing im not alone...
    ;-)

    regards,
    mike

I think they're working on it, this is a kind of serious problem... But good news, the quicktime 7.4.1 update seems to correct the famous quicktime update bugs 8)

    Hi NdR,
We can help you for your project, we have great experience with multiprojection with M8.

1- To plug 7 projectors on your mac You Must use tri-heads !!
2- Yes you can have problems with the new mac 8 cores but still works.

    hi ndr,

same to me...also bought 8core macpro and m8 for big project last year
and due to above reasons it nearly flopped completely...but since then i learned a lot !

    - multiprojection is only possible with osx 10.48 and qt 7.13
    - you absolutely need a raid0 to play file s bigger than 300mb
    - qt and so m8 doesnt play files bigger than 1gb without stuttering
    - more than three layers with more than 300mb films (each) in it ? - forget it, m8 stutters even if you just rearange them until playbayck
    - watch out how to name and organize your media, the "mediabrowser" is a mess
    - live input via firewire ? in deutsche bank quality ? ...hahahahahahahahah
    - its better to use different smaller films to make one picture than one large one (lot of work!)
    - if you have installed 4 dualhead graphic cards you have 8 outputs
but that doesnt mean they are all same speed (because of different pcie lanes)
    - you can use matrox dual or triplehead2go to additionally split one or more of your outputs
    - smaller resolution can look good also...

hope that helps, contact me if you have further questions, if you like also in german !

btw, right now im thinking of a solution based on the catalyst servers made by highend
for my next project, it costs about 4times more but it seems to be a rock solid stable system
and that is what we basically need in the eventbiz !
its fully dmx-programmable and its running on apple computers as well.

    regards,
    mike

this qt-problem only comes with multiprojection, look here for example:
    http://www.garagecube.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2039
    (search the forum !)

i think the best solution for u is that one working fine last time !

the best solution i know to import and playback livecast is for example a watchout system with a decklink capture card. most of the others have big lantency times (lip-syncronity!!)

I really need M8 to work on the new Mac Pros - really really need it to be fixed soon! Thanks, I know you are trying to fix it - just to let you know there are 8-Core users out there who rely on M8 daily...

After a 7 hours multiscreen gig, no problems with mac pro 08 on the final outputs
only the preview window is doing strange things, that has to be solved
but still it is possible to do a gig safely imho It is fast as hell :)
    cheers RR

    What about QT 7.5?

    by vjscan » Fri Aug 15, 2008 4:50 pm

Hello all! I'm new in this forum but not in MD8. I've just
bought the latest version, 2.5.6, and had bad experience with that, when I upgraded to QT 7.5... I'm using a MBP 2.6GHZ with 4GB RAM and GForce 8600 512MB.
What happened was that when I was importing longer movies with PJpeg compression, MD8 simply quits itself, and when I tried to open the saved project, it says that that file was corrupted. That happened many times, and I am lost, don't know what to do to make it work fine...
Does anyone had problems like that? and how to solve it?
    Thanks very much!
    All the best and peace!
