Need help to decrease video lag

I need some tips how to reduce video lag, meaning the time it takes when something is triggered in Modul8 to when it appears on the projected screen / monitor of whatever final output I might have. I noticed that some stuff takes like half a second to reach the final output while the response in Modul8 is direct. Simple things like a flash on the beat will suddenly get out of sync (with the music) in the final output.

This is a normal setup for me these days:
MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core Duo 3 GB RAM
Media loaded on an external LaCie Rugged 7200 rpm Firewire 800 HD.
Apple DVI->Composite converter
Edirol V4 Mixer
Composite RCA cables running from the converter to the V4 and from the V4 to a projector, to a LCD/Plasma monitor or a video splitter.

I guess cable length and quality can play a part here but was is the biggest time a thief in a setup like this? What can I improve? Are there any software settings I need to change? Would I gain a lot of I switch to a digital video signal? (which mean loosing the V4?).

It may be your Edirol. I do not see any lag when MBP is connected to projector. Same with DualHead2Go. I can trigger clips to the beat very well.
Do you use scan converter to get composite or just Apple DVI to Video adapter? I am not sure if it makes any difference thou.

No scan converter. But I experienced this kind of lag even before the Edirol (which is a fairly new component in my setup).
