I know this is not what your looking for but the one you can afford. Mac Pro is awesome, Mac Book Pro is convenient, G4 is cheap. They all work.

I've got a pair of 2.5 GHz dual processor MBPs with 4GB ram and 512mb vram for M8 use.

nice as the older MBPs output composite video thru the adaptor. the new ones dont.

put you clips on an external drive and you are away..

thanks for the feedback. i am a video producer by trade so i already have a mac pro and macbook pro for running fcp. will the macbook pros be able to handle hd and multiple screen projection? or is a mac pro with maxed out ram and graphics card the way to go.

another question that is slightly off topic but definitely related: i have been working with some new tools, the edirol v-8 mixer, the p-10 visual sampler and a dvj-x1. they are great pieces but they all belong to a standard def world. is SD going out in the world of performance video/vjing? should i sell these pieces and focus primarily on computer based apps and hd projection gear?

    i appreciate your time, thanks.

    HD? maybe not
    but native res projectors ?
    maybe yes.

    you'll find lots of kit that will do 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024.

question is does the higher res justify the cost of a SXGA mixer - around $10,000/

until the mixer prices come down, its either a stand alone computer or SD.

I find two SD outputs on a scan convereted dual head gives me 1532 x 576 image which is enough for me.

most people wouldn't notice the difference anyway

thanks again for sharing your knowledge. how would you recommend i integrate the pieces i own with modul8? i know i can run them (the p-10, the dvx, and modul8) all into the v-8 mixer but then i can't output through a dual or triple head card for multi-screen projections. is there a way to do this i haven't thought of yet or is it better to run the mixer through modul8's live camera input?

    thanks

The MOST RAM you can have (to hold videos in memory)
The BEST Graphics Card(s) you can get, with the most VRAM

    Yes, could be $$$$$
