Media Set always reverts to Set 1

    by martyw79 » Wed Sep 23, 2009 5:34 am

    Hi,

    Is this a bug?
Whenever I click on a layer the Media Set always changes
back to the first set? It adds a few extra mouse clicks
to the process when trying to allocate 2 different media
files (in a media set other than 1) to two different
    layers.

If it's not a bug, what's the benefit of auto changing the
Media Set to set 1 all the time?

    Its actually a 'feature.'

Download the 'Preset Default (layer)' module and click on the radio button that is labeled 'use last media selected.'

    that doesn't solve the problem

hi, thanks for the tip but it didn't solve the problem i'm having.

If your looking at media files stored in the Media Set window, say a media file is stored
in the 5th bank. If I want to allocate that to a layer but the layer isn't currently selected,
I click on the layer I want that media file to be in. This action makes the Media Set window change from the 5th bank (which is what I was looking at prior to selecting the
    layer) to the 1st bank.

    Hope this makes sense.

I want the Media Set to stop from switching back to the 1st lot of media files everytime
    I click on a layer.

    Let me step through this:

    1 - Layer 1 is using a media in media set 2.

    2 - Create a new layer.

Selecting the new layer without 'Use last' results in:

    - Position in media set jumps to media set 1.

Selecting the new layer with 'Use last' enabled results in:

    - Media set 2 remains displayed.

    ilan, thanks for your help.

i understand how the module works now, it's not exactly what i was after but is better
than switching media set 1 all the time.

i was hoping the media set would just display whatever set i was last looking at.

    Cheers,

I notice that it works as you describe as long you create new layers in current LAYER SET. As soon you want this new layer in different layer set Media Bank jumps to SET 1. But if you have been with a layer lets say in LAYER SET 5 on MEDIA BANK 3 and you want to add clip from MEDIA BANK 5 the creating new layer in LAYER SET 5 jumps to MEDIA BANK 3.
In general I have not seen the benefit of Media Bank jumping. In a stressful live situation it has been mostly annoyance. So as this discussion states whenever I add media to any layer let Media Bank stay on the set number where my clip is.

But if you have space on your screen use Big Media Keyboard module, where you can see all your media on one window. And you can load anything without jumping anywhere.

I agree with martyw79. This has always annoyed me but I never thought of reporting as a bug or a non wanted feature. The Big Media Keyboard module is nice but takes up way too much space. A nice feature would be to be able to map key/midi to the minimize/maximize button of a module and maybe a keyword for it. Because then you could easily show/hide a big module like that (or is that already possible in some way?).

We have found a solution for this. It will likely come with the final release.
