HD troubleshoot

Hi there!

I've been using modul8 for the last 6 months and I find this software a true blessing!

However, I have some trouble coping with HD files.

To be specific, I've been exporting avi files from my DV-PAL camcorder and everything was working just fine.

Then I switched to a HD camcorder, so I am now exporting high definition avi files, since mov files seem to be too big for modul8.

Unfortunately, modul8 does not cope well with my avi files either.

It does not allow importing some of them into the system and for those accepted it drops frames when I am using any of the visual effects.

I'd really like to know what is the compatibility between modul8 and HD files (avi or mov) and if there is some specific preference that would allow me to work without frame dropping.

Thanx!

Are you using a MacBook Pro or a tower?

Suggestions:
- Use QuickTime files. AVI is not native to Mac OS X.
- Use PhotoJPEG codec at 75%.

Thanx for the assistance!

Well, I do use a MacBook Pro and I export files from the latest Final Cut Pro.

By Quick Time files you mean .mov? Cause it seems to reject .mov files.

PhotoJPEG codec does not appear in Final Cut..

Something else is seriously wrong if Modul8 is rejecting your QuickTime files.

Photo-JPEG is definitely available in compressor and if you use 'Export using QuickTime conversion.'

How much RAM do you have?
What system version?
What version of QuickTime are you using?
What are your memory settings in the Modul8 preferences?

Well, to be more accurate, it does let me import mov files, but the red bullet sign never goes away, so I cannot proceed with the clips.

My RAM is 2 GB.
I am working with Snow Leopard, Quick Time Player 7 and the latest modul8 version.
My memory settings in Modul8 are 20000 Mb / 100% / 1000000 MBytes at the Medias window.

The settings are a bit much for 2GB of RAM.

Change them to:
- 60
- 60
- 512

If your files are very large (2GB) then modul8 force the memory setting for the clip in the info panel of the media set to 'stream from disc.'

If they are a lot smaller then that then you can in some instances force modul8 to use 'pre-load uncompressed' and the clips will load and perform flawlessly.

The red dot will appear in the case where the clip is not being used and in order to manage memory, unload the clip from memory.

It seems to be working just fine now!

Thanks for all the help!

I highly suggest an upgrade to 4GB. Its not that expensive and should improve performance.
