    asking about macbook pro performance

    by brighthomestudio » Fri Dec 04, 2009 5:57 am

    hi

first of all i am very glad to discover this software

    ..

    then,

i have a problem with the performance of modul8.

    imagine i'm overlaying three 40mb alpha+rgb animations
    these are mov files.
sometimes happens that one of them stops for a few frames or more and then begin moving again but it does not flow correctly..

it feels like an overbuffer but i really don't know cuz i've just received the app and i have not find the cpu monitor yet..!

my question is.. how much can i push modul8?
how can i manage compression to get a lighter performance?
(and of course where's the cpu meter? this is the funniest one! )

    thanks to all

What codec and compression you are using? Best is Photo JPEG, quality 75%, 640x480 pixel.

If you search a cpu and gpu monitor install atMonitor:

Try using PNG+alpha instead. Much smaller files. Let me know how that goes.

You have to be very lean with clips with alpha. While it seems to be the easy way to create good looking overlays these seems to be the heaviest to play back.
PNG with alpha is better as Ilan suggests. But be careful with the size and duration with your clips. Use your creativity to work around (luma key, chroma key, masks with transparency).
There is no perfect codec yet for using alpha - so far PNG is the best.

    so,

    ok.

    it seems ok guys.
by png compression the quality remains quite ok and the clips seem to flow correctly.

just another question, some clip goes looping, other does not..
even if i set the loop on the panel

    is there some unsupported format?

Can you tell me what codecs where the loop is not working?

Is it not working if you assign the clip to every layer?

    about yor question,
it does not loop an swf, .. but only one.. maybe there was problem by exporting?

now i am exporting as you said, and its quite ok. but i need more..

ok, imagine i use only 3 alpha layer exported mov by png codec, as you said. and the modul8 background color of course.
i use the matrix transformer, auto color and the auto rotate on one axis only, applied to the first layer before the back ground. so other layer act onto this one.
it does not flow so correctly..
    i need technical tricks..

maybe i can merge the first two layer to obtain three layer in total, but it would cut lots of things from my performance..

your exporting advice was so good to me, please do it again as possible! :)

    thanks
