i've implemented some gif-files in modul8.
but the animation of the gif's doesn't work.

if i open the gif-files in the browser they are animated but not in modul 8. it's shows like a normal single pic....

is there something special to consider?

thx for you replies...

Animated gif's are made for browsers. I don't think that you will find another application to use animated gif's.

so i have a friend who uses animated gifs using isadora, i know this may be a general question but why can isadora do this and not modul8? here's an example he posted using a ps3 controller with a patch he made: http://vimeo.com/34542863

Because isadora already does it. Now seriously, this is a bit like asking why it doesn't support super 8 or slides

Also many (me included) find animated gif's cheezy and old.

Hi,

ok if you need to show the gif animation (although you could render it to any other codec, if you generated it)

you could use the syphon screen capture and capture the webpage with the gif animation.

"maybe it´s a new trend" some kind of "low fi" animation style.

or maybe it´s a cool effect.

I would be interested in seeing an result.

Sometimes it´s easier to understand to see the animation.

Yeah, animated gifs are kind of a hipster thing. The mobile app Loopcam is getting big with the kids. You're right, no VJ apps seems to support it. I'm looking at some special solutions to bring animated gifs into VJing. You pretty much have to jump trough some hoops to make it happen. And boy, do gif anims suck the life out of browsers...
If you want good control over the gifs, I'd say use Isadora. You can also try send the result over Syphon to Modul8.

Converting the GIFs to Quicktime is not a problem. Creating a workflow that makes it easy to download and convert GIFs on the fly is a bit trickier. Like if you want to use any of the up springing GIF anim apps as Loopcam, Cinemagram, etc and if you want to use this for crowd contribution, like people at a party making loops before or during the party that you can make use of in Modul8 moments later.

I never dropped the ball on this one. I recently published my first exploration of the Animated GIF format (http://themidithief.com/2012/05/animate ... n-vj-sets/) and managed to make a module that downloads and converts GIF animations. There were some drawbacks and I have come up with a new way that I will publish with in a month's time. One of the things that I will include is a Watch Folder module that will import any new files added to a certain folder. (if you are working with still images you're much better off using Modul8's built in folder importer function where all the images in the folder are treated as frames in a movie but that's a whole other thing).
