    Stuck On Startup

    by Plastik7 » Sun Jul 31, 2005 3:30 pm

    Hi there!
i've installed Modul8 Demo V2.0.1 but it got stucked on the MODUL8 blue startup screen.
the computer i'm using isn't mine but if i'm not wrong, there was an old version installed on this computer (Which is no longer there anyway).

    Techy info: Dual 2.0 G5 OS X Tiger 10.4.1

    any special reason?

    Thanks,
    PLASTIK7

Hmmm... How did you install Modul8 ? Did you unarchive the zip file in the same user than you are using Modul8.

Also try to remove the Modul8 preferences (home/library/preferences/com.garagecube.modul8).

    Yves.

    Well...

Actualy i bought this machine lately, and all i know is that it used to host a previous version of Modul8 (V1.1).
Anyway, the previous administrator can't be contacted since he is living abroad at the moment.

Secondly, yes, i unarchived the file on the same user.

i removed th Modul8 perferences file but the only deference was that the user agreement window was launched before it got to the same place and got stuck again.
    :(
    Thanks..

This sounds earily similar to the old 2-byte character problem that we had on systems with Japanese on them. Being as you're in Israel and perhaps using a system with Hebrew 2-byte characters, I wonder if this isn't linked... I know the problem was cleared up, but it sounds like a very similar issue!!

Please try to open the console (/Application/Utilities/Console) and see if anything is written during the startup.

    Thank you.

    - Launch Modul8. While the splash screen is displayed... go to the "Modules->Script" menu and select "Show Script Output". Let me know if anything is written inside.

    Possible explations:

    - A problem with the hebrew language. Try to change it to english, log out, log in and retry.

    - A problem with this user (permissions, compatibility with a third party application, ...). Try to create a new user and reinstall Modul8 from here.

    - The BSD sub-system is not installed. When you install OS X, you may disable this option. It is enabled by default, but some users turn it off.

    - A special version of Python has been installed.

    - ...

If you can't find a solution, send an email to support[at]garagecube.com, and I'll send a special version with trace functions enabled which allow me to find exactly what is wrong.

I have the same problem, on a D G5 but it seems to be connected with moduls... As far as I don't use them everything is fine... when I try to launch any modul like BPM wich are correctly installed... M8 freeze instantly...
More... when I go back to the moduls Folder they are all gone... vaporized...Gloups...
What could it be? A bad version of Python? How can I check that?
