I know this is a bit off-topic but hopefully some ppl here have some solutions!
Other than buying a third party box that requires power.. How the heck do I get a signal from my shiny new MacBook Pro Core i7 to S-Video???
I was given a Mini Displayport to VGA adapter by a friend of mine which i can use with a very long VGA wire but i'd prefer to not have to lug around a 100' VGA wire to every one of my gigs..
HELP!!

You can buy a shorter VGA cable, don't think that you must have 100 meters every time.
The only solution for S-Video Signal is a scan converter. There's no other way.

I suspected as much.. I have ordered a mini scan converter that uses power from a USB port.
Apple makes such good products, but sometimes they make really stupid mistakes.

Yeah, just get a scan converter for $40 or so...
Most of them have got vga in, vga out, composite out, s-video out and are fed by usb
Just google around to find some kind of electronics shop nearby.
Don't get a professional one, these will cost you around $2000
I think there's quite a market if you will just produce a displayport > s-video/composite box, apple sucks in switching their video output ports in every model.

I disagree. Do not get the cheap scan converter, sooner or later you will throw it to the wall - hopefully not at the show. Ebay has very good scanny's for under 100USD even you may get one for the price of the crap. Search for ScanDO Pro.

I bought this converter and I'm happy with it:

It cost something like $80 which is not really cheap though..
