    Mac Pro / ATI Radeon (5770 + 5780)

    by lbaoreske » Mon Nov 08, 2010 3:47 pm

    Dear Forum,

I´ve got a question about the two new graphics card ATI Radeon 5770 or ATI Radeon 5780 in the new Mac Pro (mid 2010)
The Radeon 5780 can only be one block in the MP, so I´ve got 3 video output channels. The card has the advantage of best performance. (Maybe?)
The Radeon 5770 can be build twice and I would get up to 6 video output channels.
How does Modul 8 performed with two Grapic cards? Does Modul 8 get double GPU Performance?
Together with two Graphic Cards? Should I get a better performance with two Radeon 5770 instead of a single Radeon 5780?
For a second possibility: What kind ofGraphic Cards can I put in the new MP else to achive many outputs and a very good Performance like the o.g. Graphic cards?
Yes, I also konw the Matrox triple Head 2 Go system but I´ll prefer to use only the Graphic Card output.

Somebody got some experience with those Radeon Cards????

    thx in advance,
    lbaoreske

When you say "3 outputs", keep in mind that you need one more for the preview, though 3 outputs on a card are 2 available outputs.
OS X does NOT support SLI [two graphics cards twined in a single logical GPU], adding graphic cards is useful only to increase your outputs numbers. By increasing the number of outputs, you will increase the charge of your cpu, by playing wider clips or by playing a lot of clips. That is the point of the limit of numerous outputs.

Matrox TH2Go can help you, but it is a laptop stuff, even if I used it on a Mac Pro, it's very painful to set, there is a lot of limitations regarding graphics cards models.

Regarding feedback experience with those cards, they are quite new on the market, I think a large part of us are not using Mac Pro, you should not get great feedback for the moment. They are presented as the more powerful cards on a Mac, it should be OK.

Be aware that they all need extra power plug t connect on the motherboard. I think 5770 needs only one.
For example, I got a 4890 who needs 2 extra power plugs to run and inside my Mac Pro 3.1, there are two extra power plugs available. I had got to make a special power cord to power two 4890 together, under my own responsibility.
I don't know if new macPro has more extra power plugs but I do not bet a euro on it.
Those specifications are not mentioned anywhere and it is often a bad surprise as for me, when I wanted to connect my two brand new 4890 !

I will end my message by mentioning I heard that some issues appeared with three outputs of new Radeon. I'm not sure but I read something on it, maybe on the comments of AppleStore itself.
    Check google on it !

I also have the same issue. My macbook pro recently died, and since I was in the process of buying a new mac pro, I need to decide which graphics card. Which is the best graphics cardfor VJíng that support modul8?

What is the difference between choosing two lesser graphic cards or one better? Will the two lesser one distribute the workload evenly? I have a USB adapter for connecting a screen, can I use all the three adapters on the new ati radeon as projector outputs?

Please help me, as I´m tbh pretty f.... with time!
