    PLEASE HELP WITH MULTI PROJECTION

    by madsmeskalin » Sun Jan 16, 2011 12:41 am

I have a gig right now, a mac pro with two ati radeon cards and four projectors connected. I want to display a 2400x600 clip, just like with the matrox triplehead2go. But I everytime I try to change the resolutions in advanced output menu, it just distorts the image. It doesnt spread it out over several projectors. Please dont say consult the manual, cause it didnt make me any wiser! Any input is appreciated!

Radeon, which one (2 outputs, 3 outputs) ? Do you really got four projectors with 2 cards (2 outputs, 3 outputs) ? What about the preview window ?
2400x600 means three 800x600 clips, three projectors not four. Do you got three clips in the advanced output window, each at 4/3 format (800x600) and horizontally aligned and correctly assigned to an output (Yes, in the manual p27) ?
Did you set to full screen ? Have you tested each projector, directly plugged on your mac ? Is your media videos or graphics match this format ?

You can not change the resolution of a clip in the advanced output window, you can just change its position in the workspace and its format. You set the resolution only in OS X Monitor Panel window, 800x600.
Obviously, the right format for you is 4/3. Three 4/3 clips side by side.
    Can't help you further.
PS : Don't tell me you make a gig without testing your projection setup before ! (Yes I'm malicious)
    Good Luck

    Thanks for the reply!

Its two ATI radeon 5770 with three outputs. The preview window is connected to an external graphic card powered by usb, so its not a part of the total outputs.

Forget about the fourth projector, lets stick to three. I dont want three clips playing next to eachother. I want one clip with 2400x600 ratio to play, spanning over three projectors. 12/3.

And yeah, I know. I should have tested it at home :/

"Side by side" or recovering each other, it's up to you, I don't know anything about the screens,
about your projection space setup, if the three screens are physically separated or if there is some soft edge blending, etc…, it remains that :
once you got your three monitors panels windows in OSX, open M8, open AdvOutput,
create three clips (one by projector) in AO window, set each clip to its corresponding output (eight outputs assignable in the right bottom of the window),
"your mission, Luke, is the right three ones to find".
Close AO window. You can set the M8 preview window to your new ratio in the M8 Preferences.
A white line appears in the M8 preview window that shows your new space-work, load a 2400x600 clip on a layer, set it
    et voilà ! 8)

Works perfect on a laptop. I havent tried it to connect a projector, only a secondary preview monitor, but I think with low resolutions it should be okay. Not great, but okay. I bought a second one to connect a touch screen monitor to use as controller surface.

Which brand/model are you using and at what resolution? And what signal do you get out of it? Do you configure an output for it in Advanced output and drag the preview window to that display?

The cheapest chinese version on ebay, cost about 50 bucks. I´m not sure what you mean by what signal. I didnt configure anything, just download the drivers and it shows up like an external screen in display preferences. Thats what Ive done so far.
