    Question about mapping in Modul8

    by SaLacoste » Sun Jan 23, 2011 10:49 pm

Good daytime, i made mapping shows in Catalyst. But when i saw Modul8, it was great, coz its cheaper and have a lot of layers!
Now i have some question about using Modul8 in mapping. Hope that some1 can answers on these.

How i can connect 2 projectors and make multi-screen (both 2 projectors make 1 square).

How i can make and correct work area ( sphere form for example or more difficulty ).
Can i upload spline forms from photoshop ( for example ) ?

    Any modules for mapping special?

Yes, but not directly out of Modul8 without some tweaking on your own. There has been some hinting that Soft Edge Blend would be a feature of Modul8 3.0. BTW It is possible to do up to 7 projectors with a maxed out Mac Pro and 3 with a MacBook Pro and Matrox Triple Head2Go. You can do what you are asking but without a soft edge blend it will not look professional.

    DeepVisual has an option.

This question is much harder to answer. I have found shapes that are not square or cubed are tough. Circles and Spheres are doable but Mapping non-cubed/square stuff is not simple out of the box without lots of preproduction. I am working on a 3 foot dodecahedron right now and it is challenging to say the least.

I am not really sure what this is. If you mean 3D wire images then no. If you mean .jpg, .png+, .psd+, and almost any other image file Photoshop can do then yes.

    MapMapMap and Mask (global)
MadMapper is not here yet but all indications are it will be sweet!

Spherical mapping is there but it is not as easy to map onto a sphere as you would think, it has to do with the center angle thing that happens. The sphere gets twisted when you move it in space. Well all shapes distort, this is killing me on my Dodecahedron.

in between the 3 rotation knobs there is the depth of field knob, turn it to the far left and it will remove all perspective distortions.

I am so tired right now and my setup is were I should be, asleep. If this has been staring me in the face the whole time then I am about to have a lot more fun with my favorite visual program. Thanks again Modul8 team and users!
