    Trigger layers via MIDI?

    by brett720 » Fri May 20, 2011 7:27 am

Is there a way to easily trigger layers via MIDI? I would specfically like to be able to turn the layers on and off with a pad or key on my AKAI LPD8 or MPK25. I have tried mapping to the layer switch button in all 3 different MIDI mapping modes with no success. I would think this would be one of the easiest and most common things to map in a program like this, so I assume I am missing something. Sorry if this has been asked before...I couldn't really find any solid info by searching here or google.

yes you can, the problem is probably the midi being sent from you controllers. when you say 'with no success" what's actually happening? I imagine that the pads default is to send note on on press and note off on release you need to change this to toggle.

Thanks for responding! I have tried pretty much every combination I can as far as the 3 different midi mapping modes in modul8 as well as both midi controllers being set in toggle and momentary mode via the AKAI midi config software. I have mapped the midi controller pad to the toggle square in the layer (which works for me when I map it to a keyboard key to toggle the layer on and off)..and the most I get is modul8 swapping layers but no toggling on and off of the layer.

I made sure the mapping is in fact set for the little toggle square on the layer. Everything else in modul8 I have midi mapped sees to work fine. This seems like it should be a very simple thing which is what is confusing me as I have mapped software for many years to midi controllers. Thanks again for your help...any advice is VERY much appreciated!

I think I resolved it! Looks like it was an issue of pad vs cc. I reinstalled the AKAI software and it seems like it is taking cc messages now! Thanks again for responding!
