Ableton control of modul8 midi clock and all notes off.

    by avthree » Fri Jul 01, 2011 9:42 pm

Hi, Im new to the forums, but just wondering if anyone may be able to help me.

I see there is lots of advice on here about controlling modul8 with Ableton and I was wondering if you may have any advice on a project I am working on?

I am working with a musician using ableton, and have midi linked modul8 on a seperate computer.
The clips trigger fine, but occasionly, the musician will end a track early by stepping on a pedal attached to ableton which presses stop and cuts the midi clock in ableton. Is there any way to get this to also cut the visuals in modul8?

I was trying to cue a black clip with whatever signal I was getting through modul8 when the pedal was pressed, but it didnt seem to work, I think it maybe a cc midi signal (all notes off), and not a note being sent.

When I tried to midi map the black clip, it recognised a signal, think it was 1/123 or something, but it didnt trigger the clip.
Will this trigger a layer on and off? or is there a way for modul8 to stop playing clips or fade to black when it stops recieving the midi clock from ableton?

Dont know if this makes sense, but really hope you can help!
    Many thanks!

Do you know what the pedal is sending?
    If not try MIDI Monitor
    http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/
It is very useful tool to check what messages and params are sent. This may explain why your clip was not triggered.
And look for module Activate Layers to start/stop the show.

Thanks for the reply! We are testing it all out again tomorrow, so I will give Midi Monitor a go.
    Many thanks,

Is there any module that you know of that can kill the visuals with the loss of the midi clock? As essentially, thats what the pedal would do also.

I have been looking at the scripting for the BPM global module, and wondering if its possible to kill the global alpha when the bpm is 0?

I had a go at this:

    if sharedDict['BPM'] < 1:
    modul8.setValue('ctrl_master_alpha',0)

I was trying to put it in the init() section of a copy of the BPM global.
WIll this work, I think my scripting is pretty crude.
Do you need to save the scripting, or will it work live while editing?

I also couldn't get the activate layers module (auto resume) to work at all?
    Thanks for your help!
