    performance VS resolution

    by SirAlex » Tue Jul 05, 2011 4:21 am

    Hello All,

What is the best configuration in terms of performance and graphics quality of the M8?

To use the 2º output at the native resolution of the connected device (projector, LCD, led screen...) or to use the 2º output at the resolution of the biggest media you use on the composition ?

Native resolution of my project is 4x 1280x1024 pixel
Advanced output is set to Clip 1 2560x1024 pixel and Clip 2 2560x1024 pixel

At the moment Im using 2x ATI HD5770 one for preview monitor and the other with 2x DualHead2Go, each Matrox at 2560x1024 pixel so in the end I have 4x 1280x1024 pixel screen.
Question: Will I see a great difference in the render quality (faster, no drop frames....) of M8 if I change the Matrox resolution to 1600x600 pixel so in the end I have 4x 800x600 screen?

first, you should set your clips in advanced output to fit in 480 height. The values in there are "arbitrary", they don't mean pixels. So if you fit in 480 height it will fit in your preview window.

then, the windows will scale to the output resolution you defined in the display preferences of your computer. You will have to "scale" down your media in modul8 but in the end it will get all its pixels back fullscreen.

Now, for your question, it depends on what you're doing. If you have a huge stage background with a 2K projector but the crowd is 10 or 20 meters far from this screen, you don't need to have 2k medias on it. Nobody will see it's only 1024x768 from that distance and you will be able to do a lot more in modul8 without stuttering.

But if you only trigger medias without effects, you actually don't really care about drop frames etc. and you can go full res of your projector/screen/etc.
