I know this isn't the answer you want, but it isn't possible yet.
My solution to this is to name my clips a certain way and dump them into a folder before launching M8 so that I could get the result I wanted when loading them the first time.
I actually name my clips in such a way that they they are identifiable by type.
So that:
AP_FX_xxx = Alpha'd Effect
AP_GE_xxx = Alpha'd Graphic Element
AP_LA_xxx = Alpha'd Live Action
AP_TN_xxx = Alpha'd Toon
BG_Background
etc. I probably have about 8 different types total.
Pick out clips before opening modul8 and move them one by one into a seperate folder till I have 80.
When they arrive in M8 they are grouped by type as they arrive in alphabetical order.
