Hi I wanted to know what the best codec to use to render final projects out modul8 would be? I used Apple Animation for my last and was left with a huge file, I was made aware of the apple animation being used soley for motion graphics. I am trying to pinpoint a good work flow to keep my final rendered projects to use in adobe for the master movie keeping original quality. I cam currently using h264 clips in modul8.

thanks in advance Raya

There are some good options:
AIC even at 100% quality
PhotoJPG at 85% quality
PNG+ for transparent clips
ProRes if you have fast machine. ProRes444 supports alpha channel and has wonderful color.
I can run first 3 options 1024x768 pretty nicely with my MBP 4.1 early 2009. And rather limited ProRes(few clips loaded).

Vanakaru thanks for the great information, I cant seem to find the pro res option in my drop down settings. I would like to try pro res for a master file.

cheers Raya

ProRes comes with FCP. But this
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1396
may have it as well or it is just for playback(decoding). I can not test it - I have ProRes installed already.

The 'officially' recommended codec for full frame video has always been PhotoJPEG at 75%. This goes for MadMapper as well.
The reason for this is because it is the codec that is best suited for video running on the video card when using OpenGL, what Modul8 uses primarily for output and the interface.

Has anything changed with Apple not supporting Quicktime and its codecs any more? AVFoundation is geared to H264 various versions(ProRes, Hap etc). Is Modul8 now on AVFoundation as well?

I don't think much has changed with modul8, but I know the new Madmapper v2 shipped with AVFoundation included and much better video support as a result. Hoping modul8 catches up :)
