this amazing image from nasa of the earth: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gsfc/67601 ... otostream/
is 8000x8000 pixels. it'll load into the bin and give it a thumbnail but it instantly crashes modul8 when clicked on. is there a limit to the size of image you can triger safely?

Could it not be a limitation to the graphics card causing the crash? - whats the maximum resolution m8 can work at?

just a stupid question:
why would you need 8000x8000 images in modul8?! do you have a screen that accepts this size?

And yes, it's probably a graphic card limitation. Softwares like photoshop are not working the same way and the whole image will never be used directly in the graphic card.

Hey,

i´ll checked the picture on an macpro early 2011 2.2 Ghz 8 Gb Ram
Graphic Card is a AMD Radeon HD 6750M and a Intel HD Graphics 3000.

The Picture worked just fine.
I could make animations with it.

I was curious because when i saw the tutorial from Franz (http://www.modul8.us/?p=897)
i was thinking how big could the source be if it´s all splitted movies.
I´ll then made a Test with 10Kx10K and had no Problem.

So basically i would use it to send more videos to madmapper.

and then in MM i would select the source for different surfaces.

! i´m just guessing ....

@leolodreamland:

why would you use such a big picture ?

With the exception of the fact that Modul8 is not 64bit, the limitation almost always rests on the hardware. Having an AMD Radeon HD demonstrates that point.

Since there is no common display device that allows for 8000 x 8000 pixels there is no real reason to use it, even if your hardware can handle it.

Although the only creative reason I could see wanting to use such a large image might if one wanted to have a very large image that they could pan and scan with as part of their performance. And even then you could still get good results in terms of displayed information with 2000 x 2000.

@leolodreamland you can explain your interests without being slightly derogatory. It is not respectful and it will get you banned from this forum.

Panning and scanning can still be done effectively and produce resultes without going up to 8000 x 8000 pixels.
