    by Sicovaja » Mon Mar 11, 2013 8:25 pm

    Hello,

i would like to know if it's possible to use the output of modul8 as input in a second comuter running modul 8.
and if it's possible how does it work!

i need this for a gig where i can't fully use just my mac because of the setup.

    thx in advance

    Hi ,

which kind of mac do you use ?

    macbook pro

or mac pro ( tower )

in both cases you need a graphic card with an I/O (blackmagic, etc.)

I used a blackmagic Intensity Extrem

And you need a thunderboldt to HDMI cable ... in this case ....

and if the macbook is DVI output here is a vimeo link to vade´s tutorial ....

    https://vimeo.com/6021703

    i hope this helps you

    hey,

which kind of mac do you use ?
    - i use an macbook pro retina

    - at the club they have: We make 7680*800 pictures on a MacPro which has 6 DVI outpouts, our MacPro splits the panoramic picture on 6 DVI outputs, these outputs go to a matrix switcher.

And you need a thunderboldt to HDMI cable ... in this case ....
    - i have a direct hdmi output on my mac

since i don't want to produce videos 7680*800 esecially since they said they dont want to see "the same picture" on every screen
my pefered solution would be using my macbook to play on two screens (get doubled on another wall) and inout this as one layer into the mac pro to play the four leaving screens with the mac pro
otherwise i have the feeling that i might have a problem with the layers since i love to work with lumakey and sequencer...
the "same picture on every screen" thing makes me a bit worried with the techique i work...

so with this setup is it possible to have my output video as input in the second modul8?

sry, but this kind of setup is new to me...

    hey,

i usually use 2 macpro to split task of the compositing. not for panoramic reason.

    i use a 15" macbook pro and a 17" macbook pro. (one early 2011/ one early 2012 ) / no retina.

    ------
so you have 6 Beamer and they beam to a sphere ? or do they beam 360° in a room ?
    don´t you need soft-edging ?
    -------
i don´t know if this task can be achieved with to macbooks ....

there a vj that use dualhead and triplehead 2 go for this task.

// is there someone that has experience with a task like this ? //

    (2nd thought)
i think you need one computer to sync the panoramic picture. you could use the macbook as a player
for sources and compose them in the second modul8 , but i think you nee one computer that
    put all the peaces together.

    hey,

your second thought was already clear to me

the mac pro is installed and they say this about it...

    Equipement :
    12 x vidéos-projecteurs
    PANASONIC VW 330 (3000 lumens)
1 x MAC pro avec 2 cartes graphiques
    1 x MODUL8 + MadMapper software
    1 x MATROX card TripleHead2Go DP Edition
    1 x grille de commutation 12 x 12 EXTRON digital

that's in the club i just want to use my modul8 to have more layers - since they don't want the same pic on all the walls.

so how do i get my modul8 from the macbook pro to the mac pro?

sry maybe u explained me already but i don't get it..

    Hey,

you need to output your screen to the Graphic Card.

I used thunderboldt to HDMI , but there is also thunderboldt to DVI //

// The Mac Pro then needs a Video input Card. Something ... Can be a Graphic Card like
Blackmagic extrem or You need something that converts the HDMI/DVI Signal into firewire ....
    ----------

Then you play your source from your macbook pro out via thunderboldt and turn it into a Videosignal.

The other Modul8 (Macpro) uses the "Video input" to feed your Signal. (this is under "SP" in the footage Bank )

Can you test the setup before performing ?

I am sure if the guys over there build the Macpro and the Beamer equipment they can definitely help you
with the graphic card. (I/O) .

    hope this helps ...

You could look at Syphon2network as a solution.

    SYPHON2NETWORK

I tested it an it´s a good solution. But sometimes it´s a bit leggy. I used an USB - Ethernet and the Thunderbold - Ethernet: The second adapter is much faster (1gb/s) the the usb variation. Depending of the video input it could be slower. i use 2 MBP retina to connect and it works fine!

    Hi ,
    i tested it with ethernet.

but the latency was about 2 seconds up to 4 seconds.

if the seed content is not realtime it doesn´t matter. but it´s distracting.

I am not sure if it´s a network problem or if it´s a problem of syphon2network.

In the instructions videos it´s mentioned that with ethernet there is not latency.

    Any tips? Any suggestions?

I've had some lag whilst using it tbh, however setting it to a regulat resolution (800x600) etc. keeps it smooth.
