I recorded a project about 40 min in length and I want to render the logical record to export the video. I would like to then take the video and burn it to DVD to playback but most of the file sizes are huge. Is there a file type I can export that will be pretty good quality but still small enough to burn to DVD?

read up DVD authoring. DVD is fixed size and you can put only that amount of time/quality on it. 4.7gb is about 1.5hours material. It has nothing to do with the codec you record your movie. When converting the stuff for DVD the time is the major factor..
