Can Modul8 use all my processor cores?

    by straubdezs » Sun Jan 12, 2014 12:54 am

    Hello!

I hope someone can suggest a good solution for this problem:

I use an Early 2011 MBP i7 2.2ghz, 16GB RAM, 480GB CRUCIAL M500 SSD. New 10.9 system. I made a test project now, with 1080p source clips, all in photo jpg. All clips uploaded to RAM, but anyway SSD is also very fast...

The result is not bad but there are breaks in the video, like dropped frames, so the motion is not smooth every time. I think the reason is that i need more processing power. As you can see on the attached screenshot 4 of my 8 processor cores are working, and the rest doesn't.

So, the question is: Is Modul8 able to use all the core, is it depending on Modul8 or OSX settings?

Of course i'd like to use all the processing power of my machine.

    Thanks for any reply!

i suspect the judder you mention might be down to you using too many layers on too many tabs.
I find if I just use the one tab with a few layers, everything is fine.
I think clips are preloaded even when not showing, which will slow down your system.

Also you don't actually have 8 cores you have 4 with hyper threading giving you another 4 virtual cores which doesn't mean much for CPU intensive apps like Modul8.
