Large number of displays - PC Build

    by JateDesigns » Wed Mar 01, 2017 12:38 am

    Hello,

I'm putting together a budget for a Madmapper build, but I'm hitting a wall.

I wanted to do a video wall with anywhere from 24-32 displays, and 2 projectors for mapping (all controlled in madmapper).

What would I need in a build like this?

I've considered Quadro M4000s because they have 4 DisplayPort 1.2 ports, but even with 4 of them, that's only 16 ports.

I've also looked at hubs like the Club3D DisplayPort 1.2 to 4 Multi-Display MST Hub, and wondered if I could split each of the 4K displays on the Quadro to get 16 out of a card, but it looks like the manual says 4 per card.

If anyone has done this, or has advice, please help!

    Thanks,

I've been able to get 12 outputs on an old MacPro using this card:

The max that Modul8 supports is 8 (I believe) so I moved to MadMapper for the output stage. Unfortunately there are a number of issues with that card, but it does work. I'd very much like to be able to find a solution to drive more monitors, but so far, the "new" Mac Pros seem to be fairly limited in this regard. Hopefully this will change soon when the Pro (finally) gets a re-design.
