I got brand new MBP running Tiger tweaked for live video performance. When using Modul8 even with moderate effects (5 layers p-jpeg, no 3D) the fans go on to full blast in few minutes. And it gets rather hot as well soon.
I would like to have some experience shared with MBP users relating to fan noise.
I have been using Powerbook G4 867 util now and lived with constant hiss and hoped to have a quiet workplace now. It does not matter in the live situation that much, but in the studio it sure does.
Maybe there are some tips to tweaking Tiger as well.

I have an older macbook pro and my fans kick on pretty easily when I'm doing vj stuff in modul8, vdmx, or plain old quartz composer. Seems like par for the course.

It's a GOOD thing when your fans are running.
You can download SMC fan control to take over control of your fan,
but you NEVER want to run it too cool.

I've actually found myself running the fan at higher RPM as it was a hot environtment
and the macbook pro was running hot as well.

yeah i have an older 17 mac book pro and it gets reallly hot. I try and give it some downtime on long sets, try and use a stand and a keyboard too which keeps air circulating

I think a stand will help. There are some good heat-reducing mbp stands out there.

I have found out that new MBP fans are on all the time by default 2000rpm. So even when there is no CPU usage they still run and make sound. So no audio recording with MBPs.
