Best Configure For G5 w/16gb RAM?

    by vj_ava » Mon Mar 09, 2009 7:35 am

I was wondering the best way to config my G5 to get the maxim performance from Modul8. I tried messing with the settings, but it never loads more than 1.5gb into the ram.

Here are the specs of the Mac.
    2.0ghz DualCore
    16gb RAM
    10.5.6
    Quicktime 7.6
    3x NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE
    Late 2005 Tower

Any advice on how to figure the Mac to get more use of the ram would be great.

    Thank you!

I remember reading somewhere that Modul8 is a 32bit app that can not use more then 2 gigs of RAM. I have been confused by this and I think the app itself can only use 2 Gigs but you can preload media at a rate higher then 2 Gigs.

Hopefully this helps you or inspires someone who knows more then I to explain.

Well that is sad, I just bought this ram for just this purpose.

I guess I will deal with it though, was just hoping to lighten my CPU load.

I suppose having a very fast HD array and lots of GPU memory is all you can do - beyond having a fast machine (CPU) and 2 GB of RAM to begin with. Just out of curiosity, how are your clips encoded?
