Circular/elliptical blur or linear blur for tilt shift

by The Midi Thief » Wed Jun 10, 2009 1:08 am

I'm trying to accomplish tilt shift (footage looking like miniatures) with live cam in Modul8. I've tried different methods of getting focus on a linear or elliptical region of the the camera image but I have a hard time finding something quick enough.

I kind of got what I was looking for by using two layers with camera input. Using FF Gaussian gradient and M8 Luma key filter on layer 1 and FF Gaussian blur filter on layer 2. But this it gets so slow that the two layers doesn't match up when there is movement in the live cam image.

I'm interested in knowing if there is a filter that will do elliptical or linear blur on a layer or any other tips on how to accomplish tilt shift in Modul8. It must result in an unblurred section in the middle of the image.

I'm also thinking of making a physical blur filter for the camera. I found some old Cokin filters in a drawer but unfortunately I didn't have the propper one. Any ideas on how to make one? Vaseline doesn't seem like a good option for an installation...

I think the physical option is probably your best bet. That's the route I would take anyway. Nothing like the real deal.
