    automatic swapping of clips

    by bighairmusic » Tue May 09, 2006 9:50 am

    Hi

I'm trying to setup an installation, where i automatically swap clips on a 'semi random basis', ideally based on keywords (For Example 'Clip 1a, 1b, 1c would have a keyword of 'beginning' Clip 2, 3 and 4 could have a keyword of 'middle', Clip 5, 6, 7, 8 could have a keyword of 'END'). The clips will be trimmed to the exact length i need, and, what i would like is that once a clip has played the next 'semi random' clip plays straight away. I was planning to control the clips via follow actions in Ableton live, but i can see problems as i'd have to have midi notes that last exactly the length of each individual movie clip, which could be rather time consuming and imprecise and I would also like a bit more intelligence on the behalf of the 'choices' of the next clip.

Is this the sort of thing i'd have to do in MAX/MSP or PD or even Quartz Composer or could i do it with Ableton Live and Modul8 as i'd like using custom built Moduls.

Thanks for your help (i've also posted this in the VJForums).

hey you can record and then just play it back, either with the program or with a camera and put it to DVD (that is if you have all the stuff to do it with). and if you have a DVD then you wouldn't need to leave your computer.

but if your using a sound in to controle your movements then recording it in the program is the best way to go.
